From July 7 to July 13, 2024, an expedition of the dendrochronological team of the IWEP SB RAS to study avalanche assemblages of the Kuraisky and North-Chuisky ranges of the Altai Mountains took place. The work was carried out under the RNF grant 24-27-00123 “Reaction of avalanche assemblages of the inland mountain region to climate change”. The tasks of the team included collection of dendrochronological samples for their further analysis and dating of maximum snow avalanches. The necessity of such research is due to the formidable nature of the phenomenon, which creates risks for human economic activity and the absence of any long-term observation series, which does not allow to reliably predict the maximum avalanches. The expedition was attended by the project participants: project leader, Candidate of Geological Sciences N.I. Bykov, senior researcher, Candidate of Geological Sciences N.V. Rygalova, junior researcher A.A. Shigimaga and driver S.G. Golovanov.
